Intersputnik Holding will participate in the deployment of the pilot broadband satellite IP-network

Moscow, Russia (9 February 2006) - At CSTB'2006 International Exhibition and Conference Intersputnik International Organization of Space Communications and its subsidiary Intersputnik Holding, an international group of service providers, announced of their plans to participate in the deployment of the pilot broadband satellite IP network, an innovative technical solution aimed at the provision of services to regional ground cable network operators, Internet providers and alternative telecommunication operators.

The major difference of the tested platform from existing analogues is the direct transmission of IP-packets via satellite which fact increases the efficiency of satellite resource usage and reduces the cost of service. The network will incorporate new generation interactive terminals with high throughput capacity capable of switching large IP-packet streams and providing various QoS levels.

According to Oleg Timoshenko, Director General of Intersputnik Holding, 'the broadband telecommunication networks are the most promising segment of the telecom market and the fastest growing in terms of development. In the developing countries of Eastern Europe and Asia where Intersputnik International Organization of Space Communications traditionally demonstrates strong presence such development is hampered by the lack of respective content. Intersputnik's IP-network will provide regional operators located anywhere in the world with the possibility to connect to the broadband backbone and provide their clients with the full set of interactive Triple Play services, namely Internet, voice (VoIP) and television (IPTV).

A number of content providers as well as regional cable network operators have already expressed their interest to participate in the project.

At the CSTB'2006 Exhibition Intersputnik Holding also presented its new products and services variety aimed at corporate users and service providers planning to establish their own self-contained satellite based telecommunication infrastructure. Satellite Private Networks (SPN) and Service Center (SVC) will support the whole range of services to customers: from providing telecommunication links for lease on the basis of Intersputnik Holding's own teleport in Moscow to the establishment and operations of dedicated networks using compact VSAT terminals.

The Intersputnik International Organization of Space Communications operates an international system of satellite communications and provides telecommunications services to broadcasters, telecom operators and corporate customers via a fleet of geostationary satellites. In December 2005, the Organization established its wholly owned subsidiary Intersputnik Holding Ltd. that offers full-scale services including satellite and ground segments, establishment and maintenance of regional and international networks for governmental and private customers.
